Members had a wonderful time at Kathrin Weber’s weaving workshop this week. They learned how to warp a loom with multiple warps front to back using Kathrin Weber’s tried and true method. Each day started with a little lecture where she showed examples of what can be done with her hand painted warps. She encourages people to use disparate colors because that is what makes many of the warps ‘pop’.
Sheng Lor, HopeCRAFT’s master weaver, has been weaving with individuals with developmental and intellectual disabilities for five years. She discusses the role that weaving plays in the lives of people with special needs and how weaving can be adapted to a variety of needs, and shares some of her favorite woven works by individuals with developmental disabilities.

This talk is designed to help fiber artists feel more comfortable making fearless choices when using color in their work by paying attention to the colors around them. In addition to digital images, Kathrin will have samples of weaving and dye work. https://blazingshuttles.com/

While schoolteachers in Indonesia, Margaret and Curtis Clemson fell in love with Indonesian textiles. They began learning about, and collecting, the textiles, traveling to different islands to acquire pieces employing specific textile techniques. Now they are prominent collectors and vendors of Indonesian textiles, with their own company called, “Dancing Threads.“ Each year, they travel from their New Mexico home to San Francisco for the Tribal and Textile Arts Show, where they exhibit and sell pieces from their collection. The Clemsons have agreed to stay on for a few days after the show to bring a part of their collection to Black Sheep and to tell us about it. You will be amazed!
Please join us in welcoming spinner and author, Stephenie Gaustad of Dragonfly Farms for a talk on sett – a much overlooked but critical part of weaving.
