Her website, at http://www.chezpaley.com/stichtenaku, describes her many years of self-directed study, moving into individually commissioned tallitot, as well as other applications of weaving, shows and sales. See other pictures of her work there.

She has also been awarded the Reader’s Choice top Jewish artist/craftsperson for South Bay in 2011 from J Weekly.

Elizabeth Eddy will exhibit a collection of stoles in a variety of fiber media, used in worship in the Episcopal church. Elizabeth is a natural dilettante, resulting mostly in mixed-media expression. Since 2002 she has been a Beginning Weaver. Her interest in fiber and professional experience teaching philosophical aesthetics  lead her to present and comment on the work of others, especially fiber artists.

Wayne Wichern , Milliner – Jan. 15, 2015

Our regular meeting for the month of January will feature Wayne Wichern, milliner on the Peninsula for nearly 30 years.  He has exhibited in galleries and museums across the country, lectured widely throughout the west coast, and created theatrical costume millinery for a number of theatre and ballet companies. His personal story of change and development in his artistry is described in a fascinating YouTube clip at

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f8Ogbyg5XFc .

You’ll see his studio with equipment, and many of his felt fashion hats. He wanted us all to come to his studio, but we are too many to fit. He will welcome any of us there in the future.

This month she is sharing images and objects from her recent trip to Japan, including her shibori samples from an in-depth 4-day workshop she attended early this summer, which she involved hands-on and up-close activities suited to experienced textile practitioners. She learned and will teach us the story of silk in Japan from silk worm farming and modernized filature, as well as a special under-kimono technique in red safflower dye, and then on to high-fashion houses in Tokyo (where no photos were allowed)

First Fall Meeting Sept. 18, 2014

Our first meeting for the fall 2014 will feature Alfred Eberle, speaking and demonstrating silk reeling.

Reservations will be made at Buck’s at 5:45 pm for those who wish to eat together and visit beforehand. Everyone is welcome!

We begin to gather at 7 pm at Woodside Church further down Woodside Road, across from the school, beside the library.  The library parking lot is available for our use, and usually too is parking in the school lot.  The program begins at 7:30 pm.

Alfred will show use a mix of modern and antique equipment to carefully unwind silk cocoons onto bobbins. He will talk about warping with silk, show us his collection of naturally dyed silk textiles he has woven, and if possible give us a chance to try our own hand at silk reeling.

Summer Meeting Aug. 21, 2014

We’ll meet at our usual location in Woodside Church Parish Hall at 7:30 pm.  Dinner space will be reserved at Buck’s from 5:45 pm and anyone who wishes to, come!

This will be a Round Robin event with demonstrations of felting, plying with a spindle and with a spinning wheel, natural dyes from our own neighborhoods with dyed wool samples, and a special sort of challenge which Kathleen Dickey says is a lot of fun. If you just attended Teresa Ruch’s weaving for draping workshop earlier this month, bring some examples to share. If you’d like to demo a technique not on this list, bring that as well. See you there!

Gudrun Polak March 20, 2014

slide1Black Sheep Handweavers Guild’s very own Gudrun Polak will be our presenter this March. Gudrun has taken card weaving and braiding to the next level with complicated patterns and textures. We’ll get to see many examples of her work as well as hear about her weaving path that has brought her to this phase of her artistic journey.

Join us on March 20th to find out what Gudrun is now creating and be inspired by these intricate designs.

Suki Russack April 24, 2014

Russack.Passagec-95x150Suki Russack uses warp ikat double weave to create life-sized images of women that chart an internal journey of discovery. She designs clothing constructed from narrow hand woven strips of fabric as well as costumes in hand-dyed fabrics for dance productions. Join us for an evening of unique pieces that are bound to inspire your weaving.

You can find more of her pieces on her website at www.sukirussack.org

Note: The April meeting has been moved to Apr. 24, because of Easter, it will still be at Woodside Village Church.
